wpid January Jones - January Jones takes Chanel to the grocery store

January Jones was spotted gallivanting around Pasadena with her Chanel Chain-Handle Quilted Tote this past weekend. And of course, by “gallivanting,” we mean performing totally mundane, everyday tasks, like buying groceries. Stars, they’re just like us! Occasionally. They shop at Whole Foods! They buy overpriced juices! They get assailed by paparazzi while waiting patiently at the olive bar!

We’re glad to see Ms. Jones out and about during the Mad Men off-season, and we also understand that, as a single mom to a one-year-old baby, sometimes it’s nice to just throw on some pink pants and a butterfly scarf and have a perfectly normal, baby-free moment. But frankly, we can’t wait for this broad to get back in the kitchen, slap on an apron, and start scowling at everyone, Betty Draper-style!

wpid Chanel Cage Classic Flap Bag - Very Cool: The Chanel Cage Classic Flap Bag

When you look at the crop of handbags that went down the runway for Spring 2013, it’s no doubt that the industry is looking to move forward, and sooner rather than later. The best collections of the season are dotted with futuristic materials from neoprene to see-through vinyl to highly pigmented acrylics, and as always, Chanel is among the brands leading the way into the new look. Chanel Spring 2013 is fun and futuristic without losing functionality in the vast majority of the bags, which is something quite important when it comes to accessories innovation.

Sometimes, though, it’s worth it to sacrifice a bit of traditional functionality in the pursuit of aesthetic greatness. That’s exactly what the Chanel Cage Classic Flap Bag does – sure, you can’t toss your loose change into it after a Starbucks run, but the beaded wire cage stretched over a thin metal frame creates a dazzling, delicate visual that’s unlike any Chanel flap bag I’ve seen before. (And trust me, I’ve seen a lot of them.) The photo above is from V Magazine’s Twitter account, and below, check out Vladi’s photo of the bag from his Chanel Spring 2013 shoot. Those perfume bottles? Inside the bag!

wpid Chanel 19 - The Bags of Chanel Cruise 2013, in stores now

First and foremost, we like to show you new handbag collections as soon as they see the light of day (so that you can budget accordingly, of course), but it’s also important to have a little reminder when coveted pieces actually, you know…become available. And not just for pre-order, but for actual, real-life, I’d-like-the-receipt-in-the-bag-please purchasing. Today, it’s our great pleasure to tell you that Chanel Cruise 2013 is now at your fingertips (and remind you of all the beautiful goodies that are out there).

Chanel Cruise 2013, originally presented in the garden at Versailles, is as ladylike as the location would suggest. The bags are done in soft golds and blues, and as has been the norm for the past few seasons, the Boy Chanel bags are the real gems. My favorite, though, is the delicate blue-grey and gold python Chanel Wallet on Chain above. Check out all the loveliness in the slideshow below, and for more information on the bags, contact Chanel at (800)550-0005 or Chanel.com.

There’s nothing better than when it looks like a designer had fun creating a collection, and this season, Karl Lagerfeld seems to be having a ball (or maybe a hoop, but we talked about that yesterday). First, at Fendi, Lagerfeld sent out an exuberantly forward-thinking collection full of technical wizardry and big, angular ideas, and then yesterday at Chanel, he delivered a set of Chanel staples writ large – necklaces and bracelets made of tight clusters of enormous pearls, the brand’s traditional jackets cut big and boxy, the aforementioned hoop-mounted Chanel Classic Flap Bag. Make no mistake, Chanel will always say “Chanel” all over it.

But there was some notable modernism to the collection as well. Trim black hats featured wide clear plastic brims, box clutches were made over as candy-colored Legos, little bouclé dresses were inset with mesh panels that had an almost industrial feel. The colors were brighter and more boldly combined during much of the show than you’d expect from the brand best known for black and ivory, and that was reflected in the bags as well. Check out the full collection after the jump.

wpid Chanel Hula Hoop Bag1 - Love it or Leave it: The Chanel Hula Hoop Bag

The designers of today may not have all taken to social media, but most of them are embracing it in their own ways. While Chanel isn’t busy building a major Twitter presence, the brand and its designer, Karl Lagerfeld, are busy thinking of coy ways to get everyone talking about their designs and shows. Runway pieces are not always meant to be wearable; rather, they are sometimes meant to make a statement. Today’s statement accessory came by way of Chanel, in what the Internet world is labeling the Chanel Hula Hoop Bag for Spring 2013.

This might be the largest version of the quilted flap we’ve ever seen, in a rendition that is as intriguing as it is odd. As the model came down the runway, we were met with a double black hula hoop holding the wide white classic quilted leather body of this bag. We will have our entire Chanel review for you tomorrow, but today we want to share this and see what you think – so take a second to cast your vote in our poll!

wpid Chanel Green plexiglas clutch - Chanel takes a trip to LEGOLAND for Spring 2013

We were lucky enough to be able to view the Chanel Spring 2013 collection when it made its rounds in the brand’s NYC offices late last month. Chanel is always a treat, and this season really spoke to me. The bags are fun and modern, with an athletic and geometric touch. We’ve talked quite a bit about the Chanel Hula Hoop Bag but another standout from the collection is the Chanel Plexiglas Clutch.

This clutch is all about bright colors and a bold standout design that immediately grabs your attention. When I saw the bag hit the runway it reminded me of a LEGO piece, and upon seeing it again, it really looks like Chanel took a trip to the famed LEGOLAND for design inspiration. This bag is young, quirky, and fun in a way that lures me in. I find myself wanting this bag, and even loving the green version. Some may be opting for the Hula Hoop Bag, but I am all about this Plexiglas Clutch, in which fashion collides with geometry and the toy world.

wpid Chanel Tie Dye Classic Flap - PurseBlog Asks: What do you think about the Chanel Tie Dye Classic Flap?

We are huge Chanel lovers around these parts, and if you visit our site you know this fact very well. The Classic Flap is the ultimate timeless bag and Chanel continuously creates different varieties of the design to please its massive fanbase.

For the Spring 2013 pre-collection, Chanel is taking a cue from the 70s with a white and pink Chanel Tie Dye Effect Classic Flap. We turn to you to ask: what do you think of this bag?

wpid Chanel Spring 2013 17 640x479 - Up close and personal with Chanel Spring 2013 Accessories

Most of the talk surrounding the Chanel Spring 2013 accessories revolves around the infamous Hula Hoop Bag. When you design a bag so insanely out-of-the-box, the press will flood in and chatter about it for days. Yesterday, Vlad and I were invited to see the Chanel Spring 2013 accessories up close and personal. As the elevator door opened, the Hula Hook bag greeted us. It made its way off the runway from Paris to the brand’s NYC headquarters, and it was just as insanely ridiculous and alluring as I had imagined. Unfortunately, the full-sizeHula Hoop Bag will not be put into production, instead Chanel designed smaller versions of this bag that feature a reasonably sized body with double hoop handles of equally reasonable proportions.

After I got over the Hula Hoop bag, the rest of the collection awaited. Colors reigned supreme for spring, from primary colorblocking to bright hues of pastel pinks, blues, and yellows. Like other seasons, the classics showed up with slight twists. There were so many accessories, I hardly had time to look at them all and give them the time they each deserved. At Chanel, no detail is left undone. Every item has a special Chanel touch that sometimes can only be seen by inspecting it up close.

wpid Chanel Hula Hoop Bag - The full-size Chanel Hula Hoop Bag will be available for purchase after all

If you have a Twitter account, an Instagram account or make a habit of consuming Internet fashion news more than, say, once every three months, you’ve probably seen a picture of the Chanel Hula Hoop Bag. Hell, in the design’s short life, it’s appeared on this blog three separate times, not including the picture above. It’s the type of media-savvy move at which Chanel is so talented; a bold, photograph-friendly piece on the runway will get you an amount of attention and buzz on the Internet that is well-nigh priceless, in advertising terms.

As Rachel Strugatz explained in a recent article for Women’s Wear Daily, that buzz seems now to be so powerful that it’s even influencing buyers and, perhaps more importantly, brands themselves. Immediately following the show, Chanel made it clear that the bag was intended as a runway piece and would not be produced for retail sale; now it seems as thought they’ve reconsidered. Strugatz reports that because of the overwhelming response from the Internet, the bag will arrive at retail with the rest of Spring 2013 (including the smaller version of the Hula Hoop Bag).

No word on how much the bag will cost, but for such a high-profile item, it likely won’t matter. Chanel has tons of rabid fans and collectors for whom money is no object, and this is exactly the kind of recognizable, limited production, totally covetable piece that they’ll queue up to get their hands on, just so it can look impressive while displayed like a fashion hunter’s ultimate trophy in their huge closets. I can hear the waiting lists forming as we speak.
